Nosehill Dental - Your Safety

We are proud of our sterilization and infection control procedures and we take them very seriously. Your health and safety are important to us.

Many of our patients ask us questions about our sterilization procedures. Considering the ever-increasing number of contagious diseases in the news today, this is an understandable concern. You can rest assured that your health and safety are one of our primary concerns. The guidelines for sterilization and infection control in dentistry are called Universal Precautions. We follow these guidelines for every one of our patients. The following are some of the methods we employ to assure your safety:

  1. Autoclave (pressurized steam): All dental instruments are sterilized in a high-pressure steam autoclave. We also sterilize all hand pieces (drills) and burs (drill bits) after each use. This process is the standard of care. Our new computerized autoclave informs us in the event of an incomplete sterilization cycle. As an added assurance we also employ an outside testing agency to ensure that our autoclave is producing sterile instruments.
  2. Chemical Sterilization: Many of the items we use (plastics) are unable to tolerate the heat produced by steam sterilization. These items are sterilized in chemical solutions, which destroy both bacteria and viruses.
  3. Surface Decontamination: All surfaces including countertops, dental chairs, stools, light handles, and control buttons are disinfected with chemical solutions. These solutions are formulated to eliminate infectious bacteria and viruses that could otherwise proliferate on these surfaces.
  4. Disposable Items: Many of the items we use today are discarded after a single use. These items include saliva ejectors, high speed suction tips, drinking cups, rubber cleaning cups, patient bibs, tray covers, sterilization bags, mixing pads, mixing tips, anesthetic carpules, and needle tips. Gloves and masks are also discarded after each use.
  5. Clean Water Delivery System: There has been a considerable amount of media attention focused on the quality of the water that is delivered from the dental operatory. Television shows such as 20/20 have made claims that bacteria present in the local water supplies can multiply inside the water lines of dental chairs and can pose health risks to the general population. All of our dental chairs are equipped with an independent clean water delivery system. This allows us to bypass the water supply and use only the purest water in our dental units. How do we know it's pure? We know because we make our own water right here on the premises using either our reverse osmosis system or our ion exchange water deionizer.

Nosehill Dental - Technology

Nosehill Dental Centre - Fibre Optic HandpieceFibre Optic Hand Pieces and High Speed Curing Lights

New fibre optic technology has allowed us to bring light to the instruments we use in the operative field. This improved illumination and vision helps us to produce superior restorations and results.

High intensity curing lights are now available to greatly increase the speed at which procedures can be done. These new lights have cut the "curing time" by half.

VELscope

Nosehill Dental Centre - VELscope - Oral Cancer ScreeningVELscope is a revolutionary device that provides dentists and hygienists with an easy-to-use adjunctive mucosal examination system for the early detection of abnormal tissue.

The patented VELscope technology platform was developed in collaboration with the British Columbia Cancer Agency and MD Anderson Cancer Center, with funding provided in part by the NIH. It is based on the direct visualization of tissue fluorescence and the changes in fluorescence that occur when abnormalities are present.

The VELscope handpiece emits a safe blue light into the oral cavity, which excites the tissue from the surface of the epithelium through to the basement membrane and into the stroma beneath, causing it to fluoresce. The clinician is then able to immediately view the different fluorescence responses to help differentiate between normal and abnormal tissue. In fact, VELscope is the only non-invasive adjunctive device clinically proven to help discover occult oral disease.

Intra-Oral Camera

Nosehill Dental Centre - Intra Oral CameraThe intra-oral camera allows you to see what the dentist sees. An intra-oral camera is essentially a small television camera fitted onto a pen-sized wand. By placing the device inside your mouth, your dentist can explore and record images 40 times larger than the actual size. You can now have a first-hand tour of your mouth to better understand your dental concerns. High-resolution computer monitors show your teeth on a screen, and our color laser printer can even print your photographs for you!

Nosehill Dental Centre - Digital RadiographyAs well as helping with diagnosis, the intra-oral camera allows patients to have a better understanding of their own mouth. It offers incredible views that, until recently, could only be described.

Digital Radiography

Hi tech digital radiography means 90% less radiation exposure when compared to traditional x-rays. Although radiation from dental x-rays has always been extremely low, new technology allows us to lower exposure levels even more. In addition, digital radiographs can be much more diagnostic than their previous counterparts. This means earlier detection of problems and more conservative treatments.

Nosehill Dental - Insurance & Finances

The staff at Nosehill Dental Centre is pleased that you have insurance benefits to help with the cost of your dental care. We would like to help you obtain the maximum use of these benefits so please contact us at (403) 241-1900 for a complimentary consultation to discuss your dental needs and to determine your insurance benefits coverage.

Q) Do you accept my Insurance? and How much will they pay?

A) We currently accept all private care insurance plans (plans that do not require you to select a dentist from a list or require our office to accept a reduced fee for services). This means that we work with literally thousands of companies. Although we can maintain computerized histories of payment by a given company, the benefits do change; therefore it is impossible to give you a guaranteed quote at the time of service. We estimate your portion based on the most up-to-date information we have, but it is ONLY AN ESTIMATE. If you would like to know your exact insurance benefit, we will be happy to file a "pre-treatment estimation" with your insurance company prior to treatment. This does delay treatment but will give you the exact out of pocket figures you may require.

Q) I thought I paid my portion but I got a bill, Why?

A) We base the patient portion of your bill on our most current data but there are many factors that can affect this estimate. There may be a deductible (individual or family) or you may have received treatment in another office prior to joining the Nosehill Dental Family which is not calculated into our database. Sometimes you may need to see a specialist for care, which also uses your annual benefit. Insurance companies do not (and cannot in most cases) notify us of changes to your benefits, THEY ONLY NOTIFY YOU. If these situations apply to you, please let us know when we estimate your treatment plans so we may adjust accordingly.

Q) Insurance didn't pay for my treatment, now what?

A) We bill your insurance as a courtesy. If insurance does not pay within 90 days, Nosehill Dental Centre reserves the right to request payment in full for services from you and let you collect the isnurance funds that are due to you. This is rare but it is important that you recognize that the insurance you have is a legal contract between YOU and YOUR insurance company. Our office is not, and cannot be a part of the legal contract. Ulimately, you are responsible for all charges incurred in our office.

Q) What are my Financial Payment Options?

A) Nosehill Dental Centre does request payment in full for your portion at the time of service. We accept MasterCard, Visa and Interac (Debit). For existing patients with established credit history, we do take post dated cheques or credit card payments over 3 months.

We welcome you to our office and look forward to helping you get that healthy beautiful smile you've always wanted.

If there is anything we can do to make your visits here more pleasant, please don't hesitate to ask one of our staff members.

Nosehill Dental - Practice Philosophy

The patient is the most important person in our dental office. Our commitment to excellence not only must emphasize the technical skills of dentistry but also reflect strong components of humanism, kindness, and compassion.

Only after gaining an insight into the patient's concerns (his or her dental needs, fear, and financial affairs) together with a comprehensive dental examination, proper diagnosis, and appropriate prognosis that an individual treatment plan is prepared and presented to the patient.

Each dental procedure will then be performed with extreme respect for the patient's body, absolute infection control, and supportive post-operative care. In order to provide for the patient with the most advanced dental treatments, continuing education and improvements are essential.

Consultation with other dental and medical specialists and timely referrals when indicated are part of our continuing commitment to our patient's oral health. We am very enthusiastic about serving our patient's every dental need and what is ultimately the most satisfying occupation of all services--the art of care and healing for those in need.
