Why choose Dental Implants for missing teeth? If you are interested in an effective and reliable solution for one or more missing teeth, dental implants might be right for you! Missing teeth can impact the way we chew, show off our teeth, and even the structure of our face. Because of the lack of support where a tooth should be, bone loss in the jaw can happen. Those who choose to have missing teeth can experience early signs of aging like sunken cheeks. If a dental implant is not placed in the first year of losing a tooth, the bone area of that tooth loses 25% of its volume, and bone loss continues over the years.
Nosehill Dental is pleased to offer dental implants, as an effective foundation for replacement teeth that feel, look, and function just like natural teeth. Let Nosehill Dental help you restore your smile and overall oral health.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are small titanium screw-shaped threaded cylinders that are surgically fixed into your jawbone in the upper (maxillary) and/or lower (mandibular) arches of the mouth where missing teeth once were. Titanium is an inert metal that is capable of creating a very tight bond with the bone. It is used in other operations such as knee or hip replacements, which makes it a proven surgical component. Dental implants act as a replacement for missing natural tooth roots, and bone forms around a special coating on the implant to hold the implant firmly in place. This process is referred to as osseointegration. Permanently fixed into your jawbone, they create a very strong foundation on which to place an artificial tooth replacement like a dental bridge or dental crown to complete the restoration. In cases where there are multiple missing teeth, or where a patient has previously had dentures, multiple implants are placed in the mouth to allow for implant-supported crowns or bridges, ball abutment retained overdentures, and/or bar-supported overdentures. Dental implants feel, look and function just like natural teeth and can last for years, if properly taken care of.
Ideal candidates for dental implants are those with good overall health and those practicing good oral hygiene. In order for dental implant treatment to be successful, candidates must have adequate bone levels in the jaw in order to support the dental implants, as well as healthy gum tissue that is free of gum disease.

The success rate for dental implants is very high, and with proper care, good dental hygiene, and a healthy lifestyle, dental implants may help to further keep the mouth healthy and functioning optimally. Over the past 30 years, hundreds of thousands of implants have been placed. Many of the ‘original’ implants are still functioning without problems. Technology and procedures have advanced significantly since the first implants were placed. The success rate is now in the 95%+ range! Some reasons for failed implants can be attributed to an unhealthy lifestyle (smoking), or to poor dental hygiene.
