Your Northwest Calgary Choice for Invisalign®

If you are looking for a safe, effective, and affordable way to straighten teeth and achieve a beautiful smile without the use of traditional metal braces, Invisalign might be right for you! Nosehill Dental is pleased to offer clear Invisalign ® to help you obtain the smile you have always dreamed of.

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® uses a series of clear, plastic, custom-made removable aligner trays that are worn over your teeth. Slowly, and over time, these trays move your teeth into the desired position your dentist has outlined for you. They are customized to your teeth using a specific plan outlined by your dentist, and using very precise calculations. Thanks to cutting edge technology, we are able to create a 3D scanned image of your teeth in order to create a customized plan for how your teeth need to be straightened, and to ensure a great fit for your clear aligners. Your unique clear aligners are trimmed for an exact fit with your gum line so that they look and feel better. The trays are comfortable, and virtually invisible to anyone else; no one will know you are wearing them unless you tell them!

Is Invisalign® good for overbites?

Have you ever noticed that your top teeth tend to overlap with your bottom teeth? That is called an overbite. An overbite is when your teeth cover each other. There are two different types of overbites – horizontal and vertical. Horizontal means that the top teeth stick out in front of your bottom teeth. Vertical overbites are when your top teeth overlap the bottom teeth. While almost everyone has a bit of an overbite, there is a percentage that can cause problems. Five to twenty-five percent of an overbite is okay, while anything else above that can cause problems. If an overbite becomes too much, then it can cause speech impediments like lisps, issues with chewing and eating, pain in your jaw, developing cavities and gum disease easier, and being more susceptible to developing tooth damage and soft tissue damage.

How does an overbite happen?

Overbites can happen for a number of different reasons. It could be because you sucked your thumb for too long as a child, or from not having enough room in your jaw. It can also be a result of constant nail-biting. Not only can overbites cause some physical problems, but they can also create emotional ones. As you get older, it is understandable that you start to feel self-conscious about an overbite. Regardless of your age, it is important to straighten your teeth as soon as you can, to have the best quality of life.

Can Invisalign® fix overbites?

Invisalign ® is very effective at fixing overbites, as well as other bite misalignments. While being thin and transparent, they will slowly shift your teeth into place. They are a great option if you are older and cannot stand the idea of metal braces, but want still want your overbite to be fixed. Invisalign ® aligners can be removed, so you do not have to worry about diet restrictions.

What is Involved in Invisalign® Treatment?

invisalign dentist calgary nw

Your dentist will first create a personalized treatment plan for you, using a digital scan of your teeth. The scan allows the dentist to map out how best to fix your overbite. They can show you what your teeth will look like at the end of your Invisalign journey, which can give you something to look forward to! Once your unique Invisalign aligners are made, and you begin wearing them, your dentist will be with you every step of the way. You will wear your trays 22 hours a day, removing them only when eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. Because there are no wires, you can eat what you want and continue to enjoy your favorite recreational activities. Every couple of weeks, you will return for a new set of aligners which will be designed to keep moving your teeth gently into their new position. There will be a slight sense of pressure or discomfort for the first few days with each new set, but you will quickly get used to that. The good news is that your teeth will move into their final position considerably faster than they would with traditional metal braces. While treatment time varies from patient to patient, general treatment time is between 9-15 months.

Of course, the best news is that no one will know you are wearing braces while your new smile is being created!

Benefits of a Properly Aligned Smile

dentist invisalign calgary nw
  • You can have healthier gums - Signs of periodontal disease (gum disease), such as swollen gums and redness, can surface if teeth are either crowded or too widely spaced. Clinical studies have shown that when teeth are properly aligned, it helps the gums fit tighter around the teeth, leading to better periodontal health. Since the greatest advantage of Invisalign is its ability to align teeth, your gum health may improve after Invisalign treatment. Invisalign may help you brush and floss properly, unlike with traditional metal braces, it can help to prevent tooth decay and related gum disease.
  • Cleanings may become easier - Because Invisalign ® does not use metal bands, brackets, or wires that may trap food and plaque like traditional braces do, and since they are removable, you can maintain good oral hygiene habits. It may also reduce chances of plaque buildup, tooth decay, and periodontal disease.
  • Chewing and speech may improve with Invisalign - When you leave misaligned teeth and jaws untreated, speech difficulties may occur, and chewing may become uncomfortable. Invisalign treatment can help to improve both of these problems by giving you better aligned teeth and jaws.
  • Maintain comfort and tooth structure - Misaligned teeth and jaws can result in abnormal stress. This can cause further painful trauma to supporting bone and jaw joints. These issues can also cause abnormal wear on your teeth, which can trigger continued problems in the future.
